Pilate has recognized Jesus' innocence and continues to look for ways to release Him and avoid execution. The religious leaders and bloodthirsty mob reject Pilate’s attempts to set Jesus free by threatening a riot to pressure the governor. Pilate eventually gives in and sentences Jesus to be crucified.
